Story by Michal Harris

Little Rock, AR

The role of being an educator runs deep in my family. My grandfather, grandmother, and mother were all educators. My sister and I followed in their footsteps and became educators as well.

My sister, after a long career and retirement from Law Enforcement, chose to teach in the field of elementary education and I entered the field Higher Education serving in the role of faculty and department chair.

This is a photo from a school reunion book that highlights my grandfather as the last principal for Desha High School. My grandmother and mother taught there as well. My grandfather and mother also helped to organize the 4-H Club of Desha County Training School.

My son currently participates in the Pulaski County 4-H Club and wants to teach agriculture. This symbolizes the passion of tradition as it spans generations and importance of education.
