Story by Maame Billey

Little Rock, AR

It was the summer of 2020 in Manhattan. This was the first time I had seen my mom in a while and we had planned so many fun things we would do together, but all those plans were canceled due to COVID.

We were very bored. So my mom decided to pull out games that she used to play with her friends and family as a child, and games we used to play when I was little when we were in Ghana.

One game was called Ludu, and the other one was called Snakes and Ladders. We would play it every day that summer until school started and it never got old. It was really the only positive thing happening in my life; it was a point in time where I was genuinely happy.

Although it’s just a game, it brings back so many happy memories that happened that summer.
