Story by Leslie Finch

Tualatin, OR

February 1964. The Ed Sullivan Show. The Fab Four sang I Want To Hold Your Hand and I was hooked at age six.

I shared a love of the Beatles with my neighbor Lisa McDermott. My dad took us to see A Hard Day’s Night at the Center Theater. In the restroom, a teenager said “She’s so cute!,” which caused Lisa and me to argue over which one of us she was talking about.

One night, I took my Meet the Beatles album over to Lisa’s house for a sleepover. The weather had been icy, I slipped on the curb, and the record fell out of its jacket. I was sad that I broke the record, but discovered if you drop the needle just right you can hear Paul say “One, two, three, four!” on the intro for I Saw Her Standing There.

Ringo autographed the front cover in 1992.
